Coin collecting as a hobby starts by collecting coins as they are received in the circulation line. You don’t have to necessarily collect all of the coins but just they ones you like. Some coins like the Canadian nickel we find in our money from time to time would be a keeper to some people because it is another coin from another country. That would make a coin collecting interesting, would be to show different coins from around the world.
As some people become more and more interested in the coin collection as a hobby, they will begin to look for more interesting types of coins. You can get ideas of hat type of coins you may like to begin to collect by searching the websites or books for the most popular coins and for the hard to get. At least you will get a challenge from just collecting coins.
This can be a very expensive hobby, so make sure you know what you are looking for and what the coins look like because they are many scams out there just waiting for a chance to take advantage of an unsuspecting new coin collector. Always know who you are dealing with and if you are buying any coins that someone says can be worth a lot of money, get a certificate of authenticity. So you know it is on the up and up. Don’t be afraid to say something seems off and you want to back out on a deal, it is your money don’t be afraid. Never give anyone any personal information.
