Collecting Ancient Coins
|
Ancient coins do exist in the world today but they are very hard to come by and they are very expensive to get. People who study the scientific nature of ancient coins or money are called Numismatists. These people study the way money was used back in the ancient days and why it is that these coins are so important. Back in the Ancient Roma times they did not really have a structure of money. No one paid bills with money or put it in the bank, it was basically either you had it or you didn’t.
Back in those days, some people did not have money so the way they paid fro things was to trade or barter from them. Other forms of “money” those days were shells, metals, gems, lambskin and almost anything worth a value. Ancient money was not differentiated by pennies, nickels and dimes. Money back then was token or gold or silver if you were luck enough to have them.
If you are looking to collect ancient coins, they are just that tokens or coins, they are not the modern money forms that we have today in our societies. Other times had each their own tokens, Celtic, China, Greek, Islamic, Medieval, Persian, Roman Imperial, Roman Provincial, Roman Republic and Byzantine. These may be very hard to find unless you have been in the coin collecting game a very long time and a recognized member of the world. You may only see these in a book.
