Collecting Bullion Coins

These coins are gold coins as well but the gold bullion coins are very popular with people who want to venture against inflation or a store of value. In 1967, South Africa introduced the first gold coin into their country it was called the Kruggerand; this coin was brought in to cater to the market. The Kruggerand was not worth very much at first but was slightly over the bullion value of the gold. These coins are manufactured at a slight ounce below an ounce, usually in increments of half an ounce, a quarter of an ounce and one tenth of an ounce.

Gold bullions coins do not really have an ace value as a quarter does but it does have a current market price due to its weight. If the bullion has a face on it whether for legal or other reasons, the coin will always be less than the actual value of the coin. Bullions come in one ounce, half an ounce, a quarter of an ounce, one tenth of an ounce and one twentieth of an ounce. The United States half dollar is the equivalent to a once ounce gold bullion.

Here are some names of gold bullions that have been names for their features or designs. The Krugerrand, Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, American Gold Eagle and the Australian Gold Nugget. Some others are the Chinese Panda, Gold Dinar, Swiss Vreneli and the British Britannia. You have to be careful, there are some very well made counterfeit coins out there just waiting for an unsuspecting person.
