Collecting Error Coins

An error coin is exactly how it sounds, they are coins that the Mint had printed in error and released them into circulation. Some times there are recalls and they get back a majority of the coins and then they are melted down. But the other coins that are still out there are now considered to be very rare coins and therefore worth a lot of money.

The double eagle minted coin was released a few years back, it was not supposed to be a double eagle, they called for a recall of all the coins, which they managed to get back most of them and one person who had one sold it at auction for over $ 7 million dollars. Error coins are printed wrong by the mint and if they don’t catch a mistake albeit a tiny one, it is going to be worth a lot of money.

Error coins are worth a lot of money because they were a mistake and to coin collectors that is money in the bank and for the seller the same. So it really never hurts to check your money from time to time, even your paper money. A mistake is worth many more dollars. Even the slightest imperfection can cause money or coins to become a rare coin and worth a lot of money.
