Collecting Exonumia

This is a study of not coins per se but a collection of coin like objects, for example token coils and medal coins, things that are used in place of legal currency or when a commemorative coins comes out. Other coins that fall under the subject or Exonumia are elongated coins, such as tags, badges or medallions. There are the strict definitions but there are also the relaxed definitions such as, they do not have to be coins they could be paper money as well. They could be Credit cards, cheques or paper money or dollars.
The word Exonumia originated in the 1960’s by a man named Russell Rulau. He is a recogonized expert in this fields and the word was allowed in Webster’s dictionary in 1965. Some of most common forms of Exonumia are the bus token or any old transportation token, bar token and even casino token are cover under Exonumia. Tokens are not actually money because the only thing it can buy is what it is for. You can’t take a casino ticket and buy a soda with it, you can only use it for the purpose for which it was intended for.
Many people in other places collect tokens as well; it is very common in Latin America. While some of the coins were made in Europe and in England. Plantation tokens have become very popular. Exonumia is catching on slowly, it is a different type of coin collecting and it is becoming more popular as more countries get involved with doing it.
