Collecting United States Coins

There are some coin collectors that begin their collection by collecting coins from their home country; in this case the United States has a variety of coins to begin what could be an extensive coin collection. You want to begin with the oldest coins you could get. Back when money and coins were first coming into their own we did not have the quarter or dime yet, coins were classified as half cents, small cents, large cents, 2,3 and 20 cents. These types of coins you may have to look for. Check your local antique store or coin store; they may have what you need.

Then came along the Penney, nickel, dime, quarter, silver dollar and half dollars. If you just want a coin that represents these coins, pull them from you r pocket but if you are looking for an older coin like from the 1950’s or 60’s, contact your local bank or local coin collector, if they don’t have what you are looking fro they will know where to find them .

Then you have the additive coins, the collection coins, commemorative coins, gold coins, United States Mint Coin Sets and other United States coins. You can find these on many online stores including EBay. Or you can find them in your local hobby shop or antique store. These coins should start you off nicely and now you can expand your collection.
